You will need to create an account and log into the SMGC website if you want to sign up for tournaments using the online signup capability (and to have extra capabilities in the Discussion Room area if the website). If you don't have an account and log in, you can view most of the areas on the website, but won't be able to sign up for tournaments on the web.

We strongly recommend that SMGC members take advantage of the online sign-up capabilities, so it will benefit you to create an account and log in.
