| Tournament: | 10-03-09 -- RANCHO CANADA (WEST) |
| Tournament Director: | Jay Dameron (408-712-0227) |
| Format: | Point Par, Split Tees. First starting time is 9:00 am. |
| Max # of players: | 32 |
| Cost per player: | $65 no cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 09-30-09 |
| Other: | Driving range available. This course has fairways that range from very wide to heart-skipping narrow. The course is not overly long, but the many trees and OB everywhere will keep you on your toes. You will cross the Carmel River three times with the Santa Lucia mountains and fields surrounding you. Make sure you do your scoring on the front nine. The back nine has a stretch of holes that are so narrow, you must walk single file down the fairway. | Tournament: | 10-04-09 -- POPPY HILLS |
| Tournament Director: | Jim Perko (408-739-1159) |
| Format: | Point Par, Split Tees. First starting time is 10:20 am. |
| Max # of players: | 32 |
| Cost per player: | $95 with cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 09-03-09 (Note how early this is!) |
| Other: | Driving range available. The Monterey Peninsula again within 6 weeks. Well struck shots have a sound like no other place as they shoot down the fairway. Make a special place in your schedule for this event. The Pros don't play well here and struggle because of the huge greens. Keep your shots in play and you'll score well. Allow 3 putts, they will happen. Designed in 1986 by Robert Trent Jones, another course of his, Spyglass Hill, is just down the street. | Tournament: | 10-10-09 -- VAN BUSKIRK |
| Tournament Director: | Les Cheong (408-396-6902) |
| Format: | Point Par, Split Tees. First starting time is 9:00 am. |
| Max # of players: | 32 |
| Cost per player: | $48 no cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 09-30-09 |
| Other: | Driving range available. A trek to Stockton for the most underrated course we play. Water and doglegs meander through the front nine while tree lined fairways are evident on the back nine. The greens are fast and true, probably a good "11" on the stimp. Bring your long ball here. Par 4's 1, 10, and 18 are all over 420 yards. The cost here is always reasonable and could entice you to vacation in the Central Valley in the future. |

| Tournament: | 10-17-09 -- SAN JOSE MUNI |
| Tournament Director: | Jay Dameron (408-712-0227) |
| Format: | Low Net, Gold Tees. First starting time is 11:00 am. |
| Max # of players: | 32 |
| Cost per player: | $69 w/cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 10-03-09 |
| Other: | Driving range available. San Jose Muni is a local, flat layout where the SMGC loves to play. One of the reasons is that it is quite forgiving and therefore you can really score low here. The greens are predictable, and the conditions are almost always in great shape. Come early to warm up on the double-decker driving range and also enjoy the great chipping, bunker, and putting area. You could spend a half-day here easily practicing and forget that you really came to play a round of golf. |

| Tournament: | 10-24-09 -- SPRING HILLS |
| Tournament Director: | John Balsley (650-678-2191) |
| Format: | Point Par, Blue Tees. First starting time is 9:00 am. |
| Max # of players: | 28 |
| Cost per player: | $53 (no cart). |
| Cut-off date: | 10-17-09 |
| Other: | Driving range available. Family owned and operated since 1965, come play this short, demanding course in the Santa Cruz foothills. Holes 2 thru 5 will test your accuracy, all tight with trouble on both sides. The greens here are undulating and small, reminiscent of Old Del Monte. You'll never have putts that are very long -- just fast and with a lot of break. The Course designer, Hank Schimpeler, graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1949. He must have liked the grass there, because the Winter Rye fairways and green aprons make the bump and run shot very tricky. Measuring only 6000 yards, this 127 slope will challenge all golfing levels. Come see this stylish course and enjoy the food and cuisine in the old, refurbished club house, a very comfortable setting. To find out more information regarding this golf course, click here. |

| Tournament: | 10-31-09 -- DEER RIDGE |
| Tournament Director: | Jim Perko (408-739-1159) |
| Format: | Point Par, Split Tees. First starting time is 7:57 am. |
| Max # of players: | 28 |
| Cost per player: | $74 w/cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 10-17-09 |
| Other: | Driving range available. Andy Raugust, one of the game's most promising young architects, showcased his design talents on this spectacular course. Deer Ridge Golf Club looks as though it came straight out of golf's golden age. Located in Brentwood among the picturesque oak-dappled hills at the foot of Mount Diablo, Deer Ridge offers you breathtaking views. In its gently rolling terrain, you will find a new challenge and reward every time you play. Measuring over 6,300 yards, and playing to a par of 71, it is the "ideal" course. As one of Brentwood's finest golf courses, Deer Ridge is quickly becoming a favorite among area golf enthusiasts. Every hole interesting and the 137 slope is a testament to the required shot making. There are a couple long walks from greens to tees for you walkers. But not a bad walk overall. |

| Tournament: | 11-07-09 -- SUNOL (PALM) |
| Tournament Director: | Jay Dameron (408-712-0227) |
| Format: | Point Par, Split Tees. First starting time is 9:05 am. |
| Max # of players: | 32 |
| Cost per player: | $69 w/cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 10-27-09 |
| Other: | Driving range across the freeway. This is the longer of the two courses at Sunol. There are not that many trees on this course, and they are skinny palms, but with the winds that often pick up here, you'll be very, very happy to avoid them. The fairways are quite generous, but the course is long, so you may feel tempted to swing out of your shoes. Don't do so, though, as this course presents its own subtle and not-so-subtle obstacles that you will want to be in full control of your game. There is no driving range at the golf course, but there is a good one right across the 680 freeway where you can even hit off of grass. A great way to warm up. | Tournament: | 11-14-09 -- PAJARO VALLEY |
| Tournament Director: | Jim Perko (408-739-1159) |
| Format: | Point Par, Split Tees. First starting time is 8:30 am. |
| Max # of players: | 32 |
| Cost per player: | $69 with cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 10-31-09 |
| Other: | Driving range available This wonderful track down in Royal Oaks (between Santa Cruz and Monterey) is a club favorite with good reason. It is always in wonderful condition, and the greens here are some of the toughest in our rotation. In order to score well, you must give yourself an uphill putt, otherwise 3 and 4 putts are too much a common occurrence. Most of the fairways are wide so that you can let out the driver. However, all your approach shots require the utmost precision as you come into these treacherous greens. Do your scoring on the front nine, as the back nine provides most of the challenges on this golf course. To find out more information regarding this golf course, click here. |

| Tournament: | 11-21-09 -- SUNNYVALE TURKEY SHOOT |
| Tournament Director: | Jay Dameron (408-712-0227) |
| Format: | Low Net, Back Tees. First starting time is 8:00 am. |
| Max # of players: | 72 |
| Cost per player: | $53 no cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 11-18-09 |
| Other: | No driving range available. This annual event always brings out one of the largest fields for the entire year. And with good reason -- over half of the field goes home with a turkey, just in time for Thanksgiving! The lowest net score in your foursome automatically wins a turkey. However, if you are not that lucky individual, don't go away, as all the other players get put into a pool that can win a turkey based on the scores that everybody else shoots. This event is always fun, and is a great time to hang out and talk with players you may not have seen in a year. Don’t miss the Turkey Shoot! |

| Tournament: | 12-05-09 -- FRANKLIN CANYON |
| Tournament Director: | Bob Heihn (408-557-8653) |
| Format: | Point Par, Split Tees. First starting time is 9:00 am. |
| Max # of players: | 28 |
| Cost per player: | $64 with cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 11-25-09 |
| Other: | Driving range available. Franklin Canyon, which in the city of Hercules on Highway 4 about halfway between Freeways 80 and 680, is a tricky course to play. The elevation changes and uneven lies will force you to practice types of shots you don't typically do on the driving range. The fairways and greens here are often fast and firm, although this will be in November, so you may be able to fire at the flag during this tournament. Try out the food at the restaurant as it is really quite good, with a damn good hamburger you should definitely order at least once. |

| Tournament: | 12-12-09 -- MANTECA PARK |
| Tournament Director: | John Balsley (650-678-2191) |
| Format: | Point Par, Split Tees. First starting time is 9:00 am. |
| Max # of players: | 28 |
| Cost per player: | $41 no cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 12-02-09 |
| Other: | Driving range available. This is becoming one of more visited golf courses after Sunnyvale. And with good reason, with the affordability, walkability, and a unique combination of playability and challenging holes. There are some risk /reward holes here and plenty of holes where you simply have to hit one or two good golf shots. The par 4 eleventh hole is always one that is discussed after the round over drinks. You'll hear scores taken anywhere from 3 to 10. If the winds pick up, this plays like a par 5, and not an easy one at that. |
| Tournament: | 12-19-09 -- SUNNYVALE PRESIDENT'S CUP |
| Tournament Director: | John Szarka (831-636-1408) |
| Format: | Low Net, Blue Tees. First starting time is 8:00 am. |
| Max # of players: | 64 |
| Cost per player: | $57 no cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 12-09-09 |
| Other: | No driving range. This is the first SMGC Major event of the 2010 season. It is 18 holes of low net where the top 3 players in each flight receive trophies. In addition, there is a special President's Flight for all previous SMGC board members to participate in. There will also be Overall Low Net and Overall Low Gross awards. The Overall Low Net winner receives a special trophy and his name inscribed on the master President's Cup trophy along with the name of the club president (Jay Dameron). Come prepare for the holidays with a bang and play this major event. Bring home a trophy just in time for the New Year! |

| Tournament: | 01-09-10 -- PALO ALTO MUNI |
| Tournament Director: | Les Cheong (408-396-6902) |
| Format: | Low Net, Split Tees. First starting time is 9:30 am. |
| Max # of players: | 32 |
| Cost per player: | $61 no cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 12-26-09 |
| Other: | Driving range available. Come play our municipal neighbor just north of our own home municipal course. Like Sunnyvale, Palo Alto is flat and windy with some long par 4s that are made quite harder against the wind. At least it starts out with a par 5 with a very wide fairway, so you can really let loose for your first swing of the day. The course has a good combination of shorter holes and tricky, longer ones. The par-3 14th hole is over 200 yards from the white tees and usually against the wind to a narrow green. But that is followed by a short par-5 that is with the same wind you had just battled. Shooting the same score on both holes is not out of the question. To find out more information regarding this golf course, click here. |

| Tournament: | 01-16-10 -- DE LAVEAGA |
| Tournament Director: | Jim Perko (408-739-1159) |
| Format: | Point Par, Split Tees. First starting time is 9:00 am. |
| Max # of players: | 28 |
| Cost per player: | $76 with cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 01-06-10 |
| Other: | Driving range available. It's been a few years since the club has played down in Santa Cruz at this gem of a golf course. Don't let the short yardage fool you. Although it is only about 6,100 yards from the blue tees, the extremely tight fairways and ball-eating trees will make it play a lot longer. The toughest hole is the 10th, which is a long par 5 (561 yards from the white tees) with water left and OB right. And don't forget the ravine you have to carry as well. The drive and second shot are definitely the toughest back-to-back shots you'll face anywhere. To find out more information regarding this golf course, click here. |

| Tournament: | 01-23-10 -- SALINAS FAIRWAYS |
| Tournament Director: | Bob Heihn (408-557-8653) |
| Format: | Low Net, Split Tees. First starting time is 9:04 am. |
| Max # of players: | 28 |
| Cost per player: | $45 no cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 01-13-10 |
| Other: | Driving range available. This is a great course down in Salinas, especially at $45. A favorite hole is the par-5 11th hole, which is 522 yards from the whites and you have to shoot a field goal right between two large trees about 100 yards in front of the green. The wind really picks up as you play the last 6 holes. The 400-yard 15th is straight against the wind with water just in front of the green. You better hit your driver hard and low to be able to comfortably get to the green with your second shot without getting wet. Carts are not included, but this course is very walkable for those of you that wish to hoof it. To find out more information regarding this golf course, click here. |
| Tournament: | 01-30-10 -- PACIFIC GROVE |
| Tournament Director: | John Balsley (650-678-2191) |
| Format: | Low Net, Blue Tees. First starting time is 9:02 am. |
| Max # of players: | 28 |
| Cost per player: | $62 no cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 01-20-10 |
| Other: | Driving range available. Ah, beautiful Pacific Grove Golf Links! What more can be said about this course that hasnt already been said. It is less than 6,000 yards from the tips, but each shot on the back nine will be memorable. The price is one of the best you will find in the Monterey Peninsula for a good golf track. If we're lucky, we may be able to see 15-foot waves crashing on the surf. Give yourself time either before or after the round to have a meal in downtown Pacific Grove. There are some good restaurants there in addition to fun shops to explore. To find out more information regarding this golf course, click here. |

| Tournament: | 02-13-10 -- PARADISE VALLEY |
| Tournament Director: | Jay Dameron (408-712-0227) |
| Format: | Point Par, Splite Tees. First starting time is 9:30 am. |
| Max # of players: | 28 |
| Cost per player: | $69 with cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 01-29-10 |
| Other: | Driving range available. This course in Fairfield will challenge your game and force you to use all the clubs in your bag. There are shorter par-4s and some reachable par-5s, but if you miss, you'll be in trouble. The 10th hole is a short par 5 requiring two strategic shots before you reach the green. You may not want to use a driver off the tee as you may send your ball into the water or the bushes. For the second shot don't hit it too far or you'll be blocked by a strategically placed tree in front of the green. Or, you can try to go for the green in two and hope you don't hit the tree on the way in. To find out more information regarding this golf course, click here. |

| Tournament: | 02-20-10 -- SUNNYVALE (NCGA 4-BALL NET QUALIFIER) |
| Tournament Director: | John Szarka (831-636-1408) |
| Format: | 2-man better ball, Blue Tees. First starting time is 10:00 am. |
| Max # of players: | 48 |
| Cost per player: | $140 per team (no cart). |
| Cut-off date: | 02-10-10 |
| Other: | No driving range. This is rescheduled because the Santa Clara tournament was cancelled. In addition to being a normal club event, this is also the SMGC local qualifying round to determine the one 2-man team to represent the club for the NCGA 4-Ball Net Competition. Your handicap index must not be more than 36.4 to participate. Please note that a maximum of 18.4 will be allowed in the competition. If the partners' course handicaps differ by more than 8 strokes, an additional 10% reduction will be applied to their course handicaps. The team that advances will play the first NCGA qualifying round on April 1. If they perform well, they will play May 17 and 18 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hills. |

| Tournament: | 02-27-10 -- LAKE CHABOT |
| Tournament Director: | Bob Heihn (408-557-8653) |
| Format: | Point Par, Blue Tees. First starting time is 10:00 am. |
| Max # of players: | 28 |
| Cost per player: | $58 with cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 02-17-10 |
| Other: | Driving range available (irons only). If you have not played this course up in the Oakland Hills just past the Oakland Zoo, then you're in for a treat. The views are incredible, and the course will test your ability to play on sloping terrain. The short yardage makes the course playable for all players, but there are also some tricky holes. The most memorable hole will be the par 6 eighteenth. The hole plays 673 yards, but it is dramatically downhill. It's very possible to reach the green in three shots. Our multi-time club champion, Brad Nelson, shot a rare albatross on this hole by holing out his third shot for a three-under- par 3. | Tournament: | 03-06-10 -- NAPA KENNEDY |
| Tournament Director: | Les Cheong (408-396-6902) |
| Format: | Point Par, Blue Tees. First starting time is 9:30 am. |
| Max # of players: | 28 |
| Cost per player: | $64 with cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 02-24-10 |
| Other: | Driving range available. This is a great old classic golf course up in Napa Wine Country. This golf course is not as easy as it may look on the card. In fact, many of the pros used to play here before playing at Silverado as it was a tough warm up, making Silverado seem less challenging afterwards. Don't be fooled by the short 2nd hole. It's only about 300 yards long, but there is water that is not visible from the tee. You will want to lay up well short of the water on this one. The tenth hole has a tree right in the middle of the fairway, so hopefully you'll play your tee shot appropriately to avoid that tree. To find out more information regarding this golf course, click here. |
| Tournament: | 03-13-10 -- LONE TREE |
| Tournament Director: | Bob Heihn (408-557-8653) |
| Format: | Point Par, Split Tees. First starting time is 8:07 am. |
| Max # of players: | 28 |
| Cost per player: | $68 with cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 02-26-10 |
| Other: | Driving range available. This course in Antioch is a jewel, and is one of the more widely-played golf courses in the Bay Area. It starts out with a roar, with a long, uphill, and very challenging par 4 with out-of-bounds to the right. The course gets a little easier after that, and becomes very enjoyable and quite 'scorable' in the middle of the front-nine. Try to take advantage of the back-to-back par 5 seventh and eighth holes and the short, but uphill par 4 ninth. To find out more information regarding this golf course, click here. We are past the cut-off. Contact Bob Heihn (408-557-8653) to see if there are any openings. |

| Tournament: | 03-20-10 -- SUNNYVALE (NCGA ZONE QUALIFIER) |
| Tournament Director: | John Szarka (831-636-1408) |
| Format: | Two-man better ball, Blue Tees. First starting time is 8:00 am. |
| Max # of players: | 64 |
| Cost per player: | $150 / team, no cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 03-10-10 |
| Other: | No driving range available. In addition to a regular club event, this will serve as the first qualifying event to determine the four players to represent the SMGC in the NCGA South Bay Zone Competition. The top ten two-man teams plus ties will advance to the second stage of the SMGC qualifier on a date TBD. The final two teams from that qualifier will make up the four-man Zone team. The zone team will play at Poppy Hills and Quail Lodge at a date TBD, and if they do well, will play in the finals at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hills on August 30 and 31. Play will be at 90% of your course handicap. The maximum index allowed for the competition is 18.4. If your index is higher than 18.4, you will play at 18.4. |

| Tournament: | 03-27-10 -- SAN JUAN OAKS |
| Tournament Director: | Jay Dameron (408-712-0227) |
| Format: | Point Par, Split Tees. First starting time is 8:30 am. |
| Max # of players: | 28 |
| Cost per player: | $78 with cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 03-17-10 |
| Other: | Driving range available. This Freddy Couples course in Hollister is a premier golf destination that has hosted PGA qualifiers in addition to a PGA exhibition match a few years ago. The grass driving range is outstanding, and the greens are always in fantastic shape, albeit treacherous. Do your scoring on the front nine since the back nine has one of the toughest stretches of holes anywhere, starting with the long par 4 13th to the even longer par 4 17th. You will appreciate the point par format on some of these holes if you’re not hitting it pure that day. To find out more information regarding this golf course, click here. |

| Tournament: | 04-03-10 -- DIABLO CREEK |
| Tournament Director: | Jim Perko (408-739-1159) |
| Format: | Point Par, Split Tees. First starting time is 10:00 am. |
| Max # of players: | 28 |
| Cost per player: | $65 with cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 03-19-10 |
| Other: | Driving range available. Diablo Creek is located in Concord on Port Chicago Highway adjacent to the Concord Arsenal. It plays as a par 71, but is rated 72.7/122 from the Blue tees and 70.5/117 from the White tees. The course is remarkably flat, but has plenty of mature tree-lined fairways and water throughout the course which can make it difficult to play. The course normally plays longer than the yardage due to wind and generally soft turf. With few exceptions, the greens are relatively flat with gentle contours. A fun place to play. |

| Tournament: | 04-10-10 -- POPLAR CREEK |
| Tournament Director: | John Balsley (650-678-2191) |
| Format: | Low Net, Black Tees. First starting time is 10:00 am. |
| Max # of players: | 28 |
| Cost per player: | $71 with cart. |
| Cut-off date: | 03-27-10 |
| Other: | No driving range available. Please note that the course will be aerating their greens on April 5 and 6. This local golf course off 101 in San Mateo is short, but has some challenges awaiting you. The opening hole is a friendly, wide par 5, but it's immediately followed by a long par 4 that dog-legs to the right with OB right and water left. Don't try to bite off too much with your tee shot here. The 6th, 7th, and 8th holes are all short, drivable par 4s where you should hopefully get your scoring done. Enjoy the nice restaurant and bar after your round. You have a wonderful view of the golf course from the Poplar Creek Grill. To find out more information regarding this golf course, click here. |

| Tournament: | 04-17-10 and 04-18 -- SUNNYVALE DIRECTORS' CUP |
| Tournament Director: | John Szarka (831-636-1408) |
| Format: | 36-holes Low Net, Blue Tees. First starting time is 10:00 am. |
| Max # of players: | 48 |
| Cost per player: | $130 per player (no cart). |
| Cut-off date: | 04-10-10 |
| Other: | No driving range available. Come play the Directors' Cup, a 2-day 36-hole low net Major event. As this is an SMGC Major, Player of the Year Points are doubled. These two-day events are fun, yet grueling. You may choose who you wish to play with in your foursome for Saturday, but on Sunday you will be assigned a foursome based on your current position in your flight. There will be food after your round of golf on Sunday, along with the awards ceremony. The winners of each flight of the 2009 Directors' Cup were Larry Lopez, Brian Silva, Steve Marble, and Chuck Richmond. |
